Aotearoa celebrated Samoan Language Week.
The official theme for 2026 was "E afua mai i mauga tetele manuia o le nu'u" (From the high mountains are the blessings of the village). The theme highlights the importance of provision, wellbeing, and supporting one another so that our communities can thrive.
Celebrating language is about more than words. Language carries culture, history, identity, values, and stories passed down through generations. By recognising and celebrating the many languages spoken throughout Aotearoa, we help strengthen connections, honour cultural heritage, and create a greater sense of belonging for everyone in our communities.
Here at Te Āhuru Mōwai, we also took the opportunity to celebrate Samoan Language Week in the office, spending time learning, sharing, and acknowledging the richness of Samoan culture and language with our kaimahi.
As Samoan Language Week comes to a close, we acknowledge and celebrate the contributions of our Samoan whānau, friends, neighbours, and communities.
Ia manuia le fa'ai'uga o le vaiaso ma ia saogalemu tagata uma.
(Wishing everyone a safe and enjoyable weekend.)
